TOP WINTER ACTIVITIES IN RHODE ISLAND THAT ARE CO-VID FRIENDLY:

1/19/2021

Comments

We all know these are difficult and unusual times while we navigate a pandemic and a strange, new normal. We also know how to take the usual precautions to stay safe during these tumultuous times. So how do we enjoy some winter fun?  It may be disappointing that we can’t attend winter sporting events or spend time at a crowded ice rink with friends, but there are still plenty of safe, thoughtful activities we can participate in  to get over those winter blues.

Here are some of those great activities in Rhode Island:

1. Enjoy cocktails and hot chocolate inside an igloo at Revolution in Pawtuxet Village. Decorated beautifully for the season and thoroughly sanitized for each guest, this is a great, fun dining option! Reserve an igloo here: http://www.revolutionri.com/igloos/

2. Newport never disappoints! Shop at Bowen’s Wharf and many other wonderful outdoor markets in the vicinity. Stroll downtown to see the decorated boats in harbor. There are also more opportunities to dine in igloos at Gurney’s on Goat Island. Castle Hill Inn allows you to rent your own fire pit on their property for s’mores! The two hour reservation includes all of the delicious supplies needed plus your own personalized attendant for your fire pit!

3. Visit Wickford! A delightful historic village, Wickford always ranks among the top. This seaside gem dates back to 1709, and it’s full of century-old buildings and good old-fashioned charm. Lots of opportunities for a stroll amongst the shops and restaurants making for great photo ops.

4. Yawgoo Valley tubing and skiing! Perfect for all ages and athletic levels, boasting a day of fun. Get your gear on and take a ride down one of 7 perfectly groomed tubing trails, or spend your day tearing up the slopes on your skis or snowboards. Rental and In-dining options available onsite. Visit yawgoo.com for more information.

5. Bake cookies – well, it may not be a public event but it sure is fun! Spend some creative time in the kitchen with loved ones cookie cutting, frosting and eating gingerbread, sugar cookies and other seasonal family delights created from your own treasured recipes. Many opt to find new and exciting recipes on sites such as Pinterest and Tasty.

6. Shopping in Garden City, Cranston provides endless opportunities to engage in retail therapy, enjoy delicious treats from places like edible arrangements or Newport Creamery and dine. Bistro 22 features outdoor dining igloos for safety and enjoyment. Can you tell we like igloos? LOL!

7. Looking for something out of the box? Try visiting Nostalgia Thrift Shop on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. It has three stories filled with treasures and finds for the heart and soul. Antiques, collectibles, clothing and furniture galore! This might just be the place you need for that last touch to revamp your home or closet this winter season.
Of course, if you find yourself outdoors during this winter season, it’s still a top priority to protect those precious eyes of yours! Oftentimes, people believe you don’t need as much eye protection during the colder months. This could not be more wrong! If anything, sometimes you may need it more! The sun’s rays are highly reflective off of snow and even ice, causing them to penetrate deeper into our eyes. Be sure to wear polarized and UV protected eyewear during your day trips! OPTX eyewear cares about your health and we’re dedicated to helping you choose the best options for your eyewear and eyecare.
