Top Ten Things To Do In Rhode Island This Summer!

7/31/2017

Comments

Summer is in full swing! Looking for a few things to do while you enjoy the sun and high temperatures in the Ocean State? Look no further! We've got the wrap up right here for you:

10. Eat Lobsters! Or as we like to call them locally ... "lobstahs"

Picture
There are many great places to do this, but we prefer to do it on the water and with a view. Our fave place? George's of Galilee   (http://georgesofgalilee.com ) With an extensive menu of seafood favorites you can't go wrong. Everything is freshly made and service is quick and courteous if dining in, organized and easy if using their takeout window. Insider's tip: get takeout at their beach level window and then have a beach picnic just steps away. Parking is free in the immediate lot, and plenty of paid parking available nearby.

9. Do It Up In A Grand Way, Tour The Newport Mansions

Picture
The mansion tours operate between June and October and are one of the most exquisite things to do in Rhode Island! Marvel at the sprawling and luxurious accommodations that the wealthy once called their "summer cottages." More info here:

Brand new this year is a tour called Under The Breakers. Not to be missed! For the first time ever you can explore the boiler room and technology, including plumbing and laundry services, that were an integral part of making this grand home run smoothly and comfortably:

8. Hot Dogs and Champagne? Yes Please!

Looking for the ultimate decadence? Stop in to the Ocean House in Watch Hill to visit the Secret Garden. An impressive line up of champagnes, featuring Veuve Cliquot, compliment the playful light bites such as gourmet popcorn and artisanal hot dogs.

7. Spectacular Fireworks At Local Feasts/ Carnivals

Watch the sky light up at the end of July at the annual fireworks display and feast given by St. Mary's. A Fun street festival surrounds this display featuring Italian fare, food trucks and a campy carnival where you could win the traditional gigantic stuffed animal playing carnival games. Located in Cranston, RI.

Another feast given by St. Rocco's occurs mid August, also features a fantastic fireworks display in Johnston, RI.

6. Drink Del's Lemonade

Need we say more? This frozen concoction is nothing short of magical and certainly a Rhode Island tradition. Del's kiosks are located throughout Rhode Island.

5. Enjoy Warmth And Magic of WaterFire

Picture
This is a spectacular artistic installment in Rhode Island. During weekends the river basin in Providence is transformed into a beautiful landscape of fiery cauldrons which cast a beautiful glow on the city. A street fair surrounds the area featuring food, shopping, performers and music. Book a reservation at a waterfront table at Cafe Nuovo for dinner then take a gondola ride in the river. This is not to be missed! Schedule of fire lightings here:

4. Drinks With A View

Cocktails or mocktails, enjoy a sunset view of the bay you won't soon forget. Cozy up into a waterfront table or at one of several bars throughout the property and toast to the beautiful colors of a summer sunset. Live music some weekends too.

3. Block Island Day Trip

Picture
Hop a ferry and take a short ride over to "The Block." This quaint little island offers food, shopping, great beaches and a historic lighthouse or 2 for touring, photographs and a great hike. Ferries leave from Galilee and other ports on a daily basis. Service back from the island usually stops around 6:00 or 7:00 pm. Perfect day trip! Many fun, affordable and also some upscale hotels on the island offer overnight accommodations so you can make a mini vacay out of the trip if you like!

2. Have A Picnic

So many scenic parks and overlooks by the sea for a picnic, how can you choose? Try this:

Beavertail lighhouse and park is a pristine area to enjoy an ocean breeze and some gorgeous scenery.

1. Go To The Beach!

Picture
Well this one seems kind of obvious, but we had to rank it at number one! it is the Ocean State after all! Whether it's Narragansett Town Beach, Newport Sachuest Beach or Misquamicut Beach, each location offers a totally different experience and complete relaxation and enjoyment. Most beaches feature pavilions for convenience of rest rooms, food purchase, etc.
