Aside from the enchanting atmosphere, al fresco dining also enhances the taste and enjoyment of the food itself. The fresh air can heighten our senses, making flavors seem more vibrant and aromas more tantalizing. Many popular restaurants in Rhode Island offer al fresco dining. The next time you’re planning a restaurant outing, consider requesting a table outdoors and enjoy the complexities of al fresco dining. See, hear, and feel what your taste buds are missing!

Go rock climbing
Rock climbing is a fun, dynamic activity that can be done indoors or outdoors. Get out on a rainy day and visit one of the local indoor climbing spots in the state. Learn how to belay, conquer the bouldering wall, or clip in and climb to the top of a preset pathway. More than just a physical activity, Indoor rock climbing is a journey of self discovery, resilience, and camaraderie. Whether you are a seasoned climber seeking new challenges, or a beginner venturing into the sport for the first time, climbing offers an experience that will keep you coming back for more. Take on this vertical adventure, scale new heights, and experience the joy of indoor rock climbing.

Read a book on the beach
Spend the day in the sun reading a good book! Stop by your local library, or dig out your e-reader and select a title you’ve been meaning to get to. Bring a beach chair and an umbrella and slip into the pages of your favorite series, or a story someone recommended to you. Cooler temperatures make longer days in the sun possible, so soak up some rays and enjoy every page - don’t skip to the end!

Go camping
Camping is a timeless tradition cherished by adventurers young and old. It offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and allows us time to embrace the natural world. Experience the joys of sleeping under the stars, cooking over a fire, roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories. Take some time to disconnect from the digital world, and connect with family and friends as the magic of nature surrounds you. Check out a local campground, or simply use your own backyard. Either way, adventure is calling!

Hike a new trail
Hiking is a full body exercise that nourishes the body and the mind. Every new path is an exploration of the unknown, with surprises around every corner. You are surrounded by nature; towering trees, a symphony of birds, flowing waters, and luscious flora and fauna. As you become immersed in all of the wonders, you are free to relax, self-reflect and be present in the moment. Hiking offers physical benefits as well as mental clarity that many seek. Heed the call of the wild and lace up your hiking boots - head out into the wilderness,

Go kayaking
Kayaking is a captivating outdoor activity that allows adventurers to explore the world from a unique perspective- while gliding gracefully across serene waters. Whether on a local lake, or the vast ocean, there are many levels for those looking for a leisurely activity, or an afternoon adventure. While on the water, a kayaker can create a tranquil rhythm with the paddle, allowing for a peaceful solo journey through nature. Both a physical and mental activity, this sport can be done individually or in a group. Grab a paddle and hop in for a thrilling experience.

Take a roadtrip
Rhode Islanders are known for not being able to go further than “20 minutes” without packing a lunch. Despite the size of the state, Newport and Foster/Glocester may as well be two states on opposite sides of the country. So whether you’re willing to spend only 20 minutes in a car, or 20 hours, find a destination to which you can drive. Plan out pit stops along the way - perhaps you can see the “World’s Largest ____” (insert some ridiculous item here that would never even be feasible if it were that big!) A road trip is a great bonding experience amongst family or friends. Don’t forget to pack plenty of snacks, and expect to take many bathroom breaks. You’ll soon be tired of hearing “Are we there yet?”
